being thankful for gossip girl

hey people!

it's me, your owcgg correspondent! first off, i hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving holiday full of good food, a loving family, great friends, and maybe even a little 5 mile run to start the day off with. (it was an accident. how i could ever confuse a 5 mile race with a 5K race I'll never know but it's going to earn me some extra vaca time at work and it was quite fun... but that's a different blog entirely!)

secondly, you didn't forget about me did you?? i'm sure you didn't, i mean how could you? i've got important information to dish out. without me who would be your connection to the "upper east side"??? well, no fear! i'm back! let's get down to the nitty-gritty, shall we? since i'm a few episodes behind we'll have to back track a bit for some you. here's a little recap of the past 3 episodes for those that missed out. i think a perfect place to start is...

vanessa! what the hell?!?! this is like another character blunder in my opinion. first off, she's got hair!!! jessica szohr is gorgeous. i guess that really isn't an issue but her unbelievably amazing hair is! vanessa's bald head is going to be, i guess, like book jenny's boobs... just non-existant. yet another disappointment. *sigh* but i guess the show needed some kind of issue between dan and serena other than the "we're from two different worlds" card. and i can see how this is already going to be an issue... hot bestfriend and hot girlfriend. this quite resembles nate's predicament in the books, two hot bestfriends one of which turns into his gf... anyway, vanessa's hair is an issue for me as is her impeccable style. but what's new about me having issues with parts of this show???

moving on... rufus kisses lily! who cares if it's only to make bart bass jealous so he'll pay attention to her!?! it was a kiss and it gave me hope that something might be happening there. of course that gets squashed but i'll get to that later.

nate confesses his undying love to serena while at the masked ball. at least he thought it was serena. unfortunately for him it was little miss jenny. or maybe i should say unfortunately for jenny but of course that's going to turn into something interesting as well later on.

dan has finally "picked" serena over vanessa and man... those two seriously need to get a room! they are making out everywhere. i swear if serena could have gotten naked and jumped dan's bones in the courtyard of their school she would have done it! down girl! down!

chuck talks his dad into buying a burlesque club and allowing him to manage it. hmmmm, maybe we should get to that one in a minute...

jenny lets it slip to blair that nate confessed his undying love to her, a.k.a. serena, at the masked ball. of course blair takes it out on jenny and we find her running from the penthouse in tears... once again.

nate's dad has a coke problem and i'm not talking the caffienated beverage kind. when nate's mom finds his stash the captain blames it on nate. what a great dad!

nate's family has dinner with blair's family where there's talk of a marriage. nate gets his dad arrested and we later learn he's been embezzling cash from his company... probably to support his caffeine addiction (ha!) and i think this is where nate and blair break up b/c blair let's on that she knows he's still in love with serena.

blair goes to hang out with chuck at his dad's new investment and decides to let loose... which leads to being loose in chuck's limo... with chuck! ew! that's disappointing too. blair's first time was such a big deal in the series. it was this huge never ending thing between her and nate in the books and in the 8th episode she gives it up to chuck bass! ew, blair. seriously. ew.

chuck is now, naturally, in love with blair. he's like a puppy... it's even more disgusting in a weird, cute, sincere kind of way. blair's birthday is coming up. when nate doesn't show at her party, or call by midnight, chuck is there to hold her up... or hold her... whatever. and serena sees them kissing! guess that cat is out of the bag. now what blair thinks she's doing with chuck, your guess is as good as mine. i think she's crazy or incredibly lonely... i'm gonna go with lonely... or maybe crazy...

wondering where nate was? he was with jenny! *gasp* nate was contemplating going up the party when jenny walked up. nate asked her to go for a walk and a few hours later at exactly midnight they were spotted hugging outside jenny's building. i bet i can tell ya where that's going! but jenny, what happened to eric? he may have tried to kill himself but you two were so cute and innocent looking together! though you and nate could definitely be very naive together!

dan shows up at blair's party with vanessa in tow. she and serena begin bonding over guitar hero. i prefer to do my video bonding over some wii but to each his own, i guess.

dan and jenny's mom comes home! she's annoying, though. is it bad i'm hoping rufus and lily get together? oh wait! that would make serena and dan step-siblings! eeek! well, that's a predicament.

and that's my recap. i think there was an episode last night but my dvr didn't record it and it won't post to the cw's site till saturday. it was a sad night last night when there was no gg to watch. i guess you'll have to wait for that one right along with me.

i feel the tryptophan kicking in... happy thanksgiving!

you know you love me...

gossip girl - just let me get it out of my system!

hey people!

it's me, your oops... wrong cookie gossip girl correspondent and i've got lots to say!

i like the show. i do. but... i am a little disappointed. i knew going into this the story line wouldn't match the book entirely but geez! the writers just ran with this! there are 10... 11 books in print right now! that's at least ONE season of material! and the characters! all the characters were just off. cecily von ziegesar did a fabulous job building these characters and the show is NOT doing them justice! justice i say! (i think i said that a lot in my last post...)

dan humphrey. i don't think his character is totally on but i like him! he is fun and witty and... and... well, nice to look at. he's protective of his sister and i can't wait to see where the show leads him. though now that i think about it... i can't see penn badgley puking on stage while trying to sing with the raves and being all depressed about bald headed vanessa... (oooohhh! vanessa!!! who will play her?!?!?)

speaking of jenny...

little jenny humphrey. *groan* the defining features this character has in the book are completely left out of the show. i'm sure you know which ones i'm talking about... *wink* she just seems so... something. little miss cindy lou who (thanks, elizabeth!) just won't do. yeah, she's cute and blonde and perky but she's such a little girl. i mean, what happens when she and nate start to... well whatever it was they were doing (if they even pull that from the books!)?? she and nate rolling around in the snow making out showing off her thong panties(!!!)... it just won't be right. she's just not jenny!

speaking of nate...

nate archibald. gag me. seriously. i am disappointed in him the most. chace crawford is a good looking kid but he's all wrong for this! nate should be a blonde haired, stoner/surfer looking boy. i will say they pegged the character on this one, though. he doesn't say much and what he does say isn't very smart and he just gets pushed around by everyone.

speaking of blair...

blair waldorf. as annoying as ever. leighton meester does a great job portraying blair and all her spitefullness. i guess she has justified reasons to be so pissed but seriously?!?! all she did was glare in the last episode.

speaking of serena...

serena van der woodsen. *sigh* as far as her character goes... right on! i love blake lively as serena. she's beautiful, sophisticated, classy, and just plain perfect. the writers really screwed her storyline up, though. she didn't come home b/c of her brother. i can't remember exactly why she came home, or exaclty why she left in the first place but i don't feel it had anything to do with she and nate doin' the nasty, but i do know her return to manhatten wasn't b/c her bro tried to commit suicide. (didn't she get kicked out of boarding school???)

speaking of serena's family...

darla van der woodson. um.... i didn't even know her name was darla till i pulled up gg on www.imdb.com. and here she is like being all mothery and apparently she gets around with rufus AND nate's dad... hey, where is her husband?!?! they weren't divorced!

speaking of adults...

seriously, though... what the heck is up with all the adults?!?!?! they are everywhere! there wasn't an adult actually in the series until like the last two books when nate stole his father's sail boat and sailed away with blair for the summer. (other than mr. humphrey who can't be considered an adult) and that was the big appeal for the series! all these kids running around boozing it up like they are 23, not an adult soul in sight!

rufus humphrey. matthew settle is gorgeous. that's my problem with rufus. rufus is supposed to be a sloppy, overweight hippie, with absolutely NO fashion or cooking ability. he doesn't know darla (is that seriously her name?!?!?) and they definitely never dated. he wasn't in a band and he's not an artist. he's a poet.

mr. archibald. his first name escapes me. what's up with him and darla. ugh. what a hideous name. is that really her name??? i think they made it up.

eleanor waldorf. she wasn't a designer, was she??? didn't she just get rich from blair's father? you know, the one that ran off with another man that is now living in paris!

and other characters i want to deface but can't seem to fit them into my nifty little linking scheme i've got going on....

eric van der woodsen. he has a face? it took like 5 books for us to hear enough about him to imagine a face and connor paolo wasn't it. eric isn't serena's younger brother, he's her older brother and he definitely was NOT a cutter. he's just as cool as serena. his role in the show will NOT be his role in the series.

chuck bass. ed westwich is creepy. maybe that was the point b/c chuck bass is a creep. personally, i don't feel ed was a good choice for chuck but it should prove interesting once chuck starts to out himself!

phew! ok... i'm done ranting. i was just really put off that the show was so far fetched from the books. hopefully, i'll get over that this week. until next time...

you know you love me.

gossip girl

hey people!

it's me! your official "oops... wrong cookie" gossip girl correspondent! you might be curious about how i got this job. well, it's simple really. first, it's not a job. it's a privilege! secondly, i'm a fan. a HUGE fan. if there's a gg book out, i've read it. if it's release date is around the corner, i'm waiting on pins and needles for its sweet, sweet cover to slide into my hands. and tonight's premier of gossip girl on the CW is no exception!

when i heard the CW would be taking on this Sex in the City for teens series i was ecstatic! but also a little nervous. i mean, this is, in my humble stuck-as-a-teeny-bopper opinion, excellent entertainment! (granted, there may not be a lot of, if any at all, literary merit to these books, according to some people, but they are a great source of entertainment. honestly, that's why i read. period. entertainment. call me a bad librarian if you feel the need to do so but it's true. and i like to think we all have our reasons for doing the things we do or enjoying the things we enjoy. to each his own, i say! Cecily - if you read this, which i'm sure you won't, i ADORE your books. it's a pleasure to read them and i will be sad when the gg series [maybe i should say the series as i know it cause i'm thinking you are about to bring in new characters and i don't know how i feel about leaving serena, nate, blair, etc behind...] and it girl series come to end. which, i'm hoping, is a very long time from now! when i got to the final pages of one of the gg books and saw little miss jenny humphrey was going to boarding school... my heart did a little flip-flop of joy! more books! but... i digress... horribly...) can the CW do this series justice? how in the world is this going to work? i'm guessing there will be some editing of the language and i bet nate will be sitting around smoking a lot of cigs vs. pot.

but none the less i'm doing a countdown to show time as i type this little introduction of myself. i'm giddy with excitement over here! i can hear the buzz already... "is that serena? serena's back? serena's back! what's she doing here? serena serena serena serena"

one minute to spare!

you know you love me...
